Keep adding two or three events per chapter to your plot line. Do not go beyond Chapter 14 as some students have not finished reading those chapters.
Write these events under assignment #4, highlighting the chapters and adding bullets for the events.

Look for pictures that reflect how you think each character looks. These can be current or past movie stars, current or past actors and/or actresses, or pictures you draw that reflect the images of the characters.
Create a collage with these pictures, putting the character's name under each picture. You can decide what materials to use for your collage. These will NOT be posted on the WIKI.
Be creative! Have fun with this assignment. It will be interesting to see how everyone pictures each character.

Start a plot line. Identify the setting first.
Add two or three key events from each chapter that we have read - chapters 1-6 - to reflect the rising action.

Indian Island, in Devon. The time is somewhere around the 1930's. Chapter 1
*Each character is introduced.
*Each character gets a letter that invites them to Indian Island.
Chapter 2
*The characters arrive to Indian Island.
*All of the characters meet each other.
*Vera Claythorne reads the poem about the 10 Little Indians.
*Everyone realizes that something strange is going on. They suspect that they have not really been sent to Indian Island for what they originally thought they were sent for.
Chapter 3 *The guests are having dinner, and notice the 10 little Indian figurines on the table.
*The Voice accuses everyone in the house of killing someone. Everyone gets scared and denies that they killed anyone.
*Mr. Davis' real name is revealed: William Henry Blore
*They all think the Owen guy is a madman.
Chapter 4 *The guests discuss the accusations: how they are untrue, and about the people that they are accused of killing.
*All of the guests agree that they should leave the next day, except Anthony Marston. He says they should stay and enjoy the vacation. Then he gulps his drink, chokes, and dies.
Chapter 5 *Dr. Armstrong says that Anthony put cyanides in his drink and that is what killed him.
*Mr. Rogers notices that after Anthony dies, that now there are only 9 figurines on the table.
*All of the guests think about the people the killed. Everyone ended up killing someone, whether or not it was an accident.
*Vera rereads the 10 Little Indians poem: the first line was "Ten Little indians went out to dine. One choked his little self and then there were 9." Just like Anthony choking. Chapter 6
*Dr. Armstrong is woken from his dream about killing someone, by Mr. Rogers. He says that Mrs. Rogers is dead. She died in her sleep. (Just like the 2nd line of the poem.)
*The boat does not show up to take the guests off the island. They decide they will be stuck there forever.
*Mr. Rogers notices that the indian figurines keep disappearing as people die.
Chapter 7
*Armstrong and Lombard discuss how they think Mrs. Rogers was killed.
*Armstrong, Blore, and Lombard decide to find Mr. Owen/U.N. They are sure he is somewhere on the island. Chapter 8
*Armstrong, Blore and Lombard searched the island for Mr. Owen. They found no one.
*Vera is avoiding Emily Brent because she thinks she is awful because she said she has no regret for kiling someone.
*General MacArthur is being strange and sitting my the sea. He says the end is near.
Chapter 9
*General MacArthur doesn't show up to lunch. When Armstrong goes to get him, he is dead.
*Now there are only 7 indian figurines on the table.
*The guests all try to figure out who it is, and they determine that the murderer is one of the 7 people left. Chapter 10
*The guests talk to each other and try to figure out who it is.
*Emily Brent is in her room writing in her diary, and she gets possessed or something... She writes: THE MURDERER'S NAME IS BEATRICE TAYLOR.
*Mr. Rogers locks the door to the dining room so that the murderer can't get the figurines and kill anyone.
Chapter 11
*The guests get up and notice Rogers is missing. They go downstairs to find him, and then there are only 6 figurines left!
*Mr. Rogers is found dead- an axe is in his head. He was chopping wood. It fits the poem again. Chapter 12
*After breakfast, Emily Brent is not feeling well. She is sitting in the dining room. She is really tired. A bee is buzzing in the window, like in the poem. She smells wet and dripping stuff, and thinks Beatrice Taylor has come from the river. She feels a bee sting in her neck. Then she dies.
*The guests find her dead. Dr. Armstrong says that it wasn't a bee sting, but a syringe injection.
*Lombard reveals that he has a revolver. Later it disappears.
Chapter 13 *The 5 remaining guests sit around not moving all day. They are too afraid that the murderer will strike again if they walk around.
*Vera goes up to her room to rest. Then, she feels a cold wet hand touch her neck. She screams and all of the other guests come running up to her, except Wargrave.
*They find Wargrave downstairs, shot in the head. He is dead. Only 5 figurines left now.
Chapter 14
*After they all ate dinner, the guests all went to bed. They all stepped into their rooms at once, and locked themselves in.
*Blore is lying in bed, when he hears footsteps outside of his room. He goes to investigate..
*Armstrong disappears, and there are 3 figurines left on the table.
Chapter 15
*Blore's revolver shows up.
*Vera figures out that Armstrong is not dead. The poem says: Four little Indian boys going out to sea. A red herring swallowed one and then there were 3.
*The remaining guests (Vera, Blore, and Lombard) decide to stay outside all night.
*Blore goes back to the house to get lunch- when Vera and Lombard hear a crash they go to see what happened. Blore is dead, his head smashed by a marble clock from Vera's room. It is shaped like a bear. (Fits the poem again.)
*Vera and Blore find Armstrong's body on a rock by the sea. He is dead.
Chapter 16 *When Vera and Blore lift up Armstrong's body, Vera takes the revolver from Blore's pocket. Blore tries to get it back. Vera shoots him. Now she is the only one left.
*There are still 3 figurines left, so she smashes them.
*Vera goes up to her room to sleep. She feels like Hugo is there. When she gets to her room, there is a rope there. She remembers the poem. "One little indian boy left all alone. He went and hanged himself and then there were none." She thought Hugo would have wanted her to hang herself so she climbed up on the chair and hanged her self. Good - just add the Epilogue and the Manuscript and you'll be set. I like all the color changes. They make the different chapters stand out!

Epilogue
The police can't figure out how everyone on the island died. They cannot find any evidence of who killed them. They narrowed down the facts, and tried to find motives for all of the people. They could not figure it out.
Manuscript
Justice Wargrave is the killer. He writes a letter about how he planned the whole killing out. He said he has always wanted to kill people, but not innocent people.

She is on the train 3rd class, so she if most likely middle class economically. She is going to Indian Island because she is supposed to be a secretary for Mr. Owen. She has a permanent job as a games mistress at a girl's school. She is accused of killing Cyril Ogilvie Hamilton, on August 11, 1935.
Phillip Lombard
He has a brown face, light eyes, and a cruel mouth with white pointed teeth. He was a captain and when he was on the train he saw Vera Claythorne and thought she was pretty. He hates Jews. He is accused of killing twenty-one men from an East African tribe, some day in February 1932.
Emily Brent
She is 65, disapproves of lounging, or anything un-proper. She got a letter signed "U.N.", inviting her to Indian Island. She said it was from a woman who she met 2-3 years ago at a resort under the name Ogden or Oliver. She is old so she can't remember the name. She has never met anyone under the name "Owen". She is accused of killing Beatrice Taylor on November 5, 1931. Dr. Armstrong
He is a young, rich doctor who cons women by diagnosing them with diseases that they don't have. He has a fancy Morris car. Earlier in life, he had issues with drinking, and maybe killed someone by doing surgery on them while he was drunk. He is accused of killing Louisa Mary Clees, on March 14, 1925. He thinks the gramophone thing was a joke.
Anthony/Tony Marston
He is six tall with crisp hair and a tanned face and blue eyes. He is rich and carefree and is a ladies man. He got his letter from a friend of his, Badger Berkely. It told him to go to Indian Island. He is accused of killing John and Lucy Combes on November 14.

Find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
Write the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
In a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.
Foreshadowing
Example #1: On page19 when Vera said "I do hope it lasts- the weather, I mean. Our English summers are so treacherous." I think it is suggesting that later on there is going to be a big storm or some kind of bad weather. It would be bad if there was bad weather because they are on an island and then they would be stranded.
Example #2: On page 28 when the butler tells the guests " Mr. Owen- unfortunately delayed unable to get here until tomorrow." I think it means that Mr. Owen has died. He has been kidnapped or something and the murderer is holding him captive. After he told the butler that he would not be able to make it until tomorrow, the murderer killed him. Also, if he is alive, he won't be able to get to the island because of the bad weather.
Example #3: On page 29 when it says that Mrs. Rodgers "looks like a woman who walked in mortal fear..." I think that she is afraid of being discovered as the murderer. She is afraid that people will discover that she is the murderer, or she is afraid that the murderer will find her and kill her. Either way, she is somehow involved with the murderer.
Example #4: On page 32 when Vera is thinking about the sea and then it says "The sea... so peaceful to-day- sometimes so cruel... The sea that dragged you down to its depths. Drowned..." It is suggesting that someone that she knows or loves drowned. I think maybe she killed them but drowning them.

how does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?
how might the title be a clue to the story?
A mystery is different from a narrative because in a mystery you're trying to find something out by following the clues and you have to pay attention to every detail to understand it. In a narrative, it's just telling a story. You don't have to pay as much attention to every detail.
The title could be a clue to the story because there there were 10 people, and then there were none. They kept disappearing one by one, until there were none left. Every time one of them would try to find out who the murderer was, they would die.
My prediction is that there is a murderer, and everyone who tries to find out who it is dies. The murderer kills them because he/she doesn't want to be discovered.
